Why am I having soooo much trouble writing today?!
In the last 15 hours, I’ve experienced the thrill of spring (with a balmy 71 degrees) and the frustration of ANOTHER “snow” delay (2 hours tomorrow- but yay, sleep!), the delight of reading with kindergarteners and the perplexing questions offered by middle schoolers, the toe exhaustion and blisters produced by my really cute wedges and the comfort and relief of my snuggly slippers, the laugh of an old friend and the curiosity of a new one- so many potential slice of life topics, and yet, here I am- stuck. stuck. stuck. stuck. I remember being about 17 years old and my high school English teacher telling me that when I was stuck as a writer, I should just write, “I don’t know what to write. I don’t know what to write. I don’t know what to write.” Then, the ideas would just come. Well, dear reader, don’t worry! I won’t force you to endure the “I don’t know what to write.” I will, however, share with you all the ways I can describe the word stuck:
held fast. blank. mired down. heavy bucket. Milkduds on my teeth. steadfast. glued to the spot. weighed down. indelible. concrete in the britches. fastened stiff. donkey in the mud. staunch. wedged in. rocks in your boots. Rock City’s Fat Man Squeeze. encumbered. gum on my shoe. hand in the pickle jar.
I’ll try again tomorrow during the “massive” one-inch snowstorm!!

I’m anxious for consistent weather. I’m not even sure I care what that weather may be. Tomorrow will be a better writing day, I’m always amazed at how many ideas I have until I sit in front of the computer.

You were right! Today was easier! Yay- maybe it’s called Hump Day for other reasons than just being a Wednesday. I was definitely over the hump today!

I think so! It also seems to be a end of 3rd quarter thing. I always feel like the hardest months of teaching are Feb/March because there just isn’t much to look forward to!

You started out with nothing to write about and you ended up with a slice! I love all of your synonyms for “stuck” especially Milk duds on my teeth!

Well, I did have fun with it- although it increased my craving for those chewy chocolates. I’ve weaned myself off them after binging on them with every store run the last few months. Thanks for reading!

When you were feeling stuck I was on a roll reading all the things you have been doing during the last 15 hours. Which to me was quite an interesting slice of life itself, just the stream of conscious flow of it. I wanted more of that. 🙂

Aw, thanks! I’ll keep that in mind when I’m writing- it’s amazing what roller coasters we experience within a day, isn’t it?

Why not list synonyms for stuck? Writers always play with words….for some reason “hand stuck in the pickle jar” stuck with me. I like it! Hopefully something to write about with get stuck with you for tomorrow! 🙂

Love your musings, you did write a slice! I’m proud that I actually remembered to do my post before 10:00pm. I think getting into the habit of writing regularily is the biggest struggle, but once you do it, it really is amazing what you can produce. Good luck!

Thanks, and congrats to you, too! I admire those slicers who are able to write first thing in the morning! Today, the writing came more easily, so maybe Day 4 will be my biggest hurdle? One can hope…

I knew we’d be friends when you mentioned Milkduds on your teeth. They are the best when you’re stuck. All that chewing. I loved your “stuck” definitions.

It IS a lot of chewing, but I love them. I’m glad someone else understands!

I hate that stuck feeling. This weekend my 13 year old daughter was experiencing some writer’s block while working on her current outside-of-school-just-for-herself writing. She told me she reads books and listens to music when she’s stuck, hoping someone else’s words inspire her own. Good luck getting unstuck!

Thanks for the tip! It was a quote that motivated my writing today, so I think your daughter is on to something 🙂

haha- I bet we could really elaborate on that list if we wanted to- things like “the ridge cut during rush hour” or “construction on the corridor” or “normal park’s car rider line” or “revising curriculum maps” or “starting a blog-” No, wait! We did that last one! Unstuck, finally! Now on to starting a school…
